EASTER at GRANDMAS

It was a small group this year. Hubby's sister had to head to Wyoming where her first granddaughter was born early. Son and his family spent the holiday in the cities. We had a wonderful time anyway. Master H and Miss H were so happy to hunt for eggs. We had an indoor hunt this year due to all the snow still on the ground. Their favorite part is counting the loot and finding the golden egg... Yes Master H found it. We took a spin in the yellow convertible the kids got for Christmas but the wind was too cold on the Prairie. We wanted to walk off a little of that yummy chocolate pie.

IT IS A HEART THING

SPRING IS HERE?
Yes! in Minnesota Spring has arrived but the snow has not relinquished it's hold.
As we contiplate Easter and all its meaning I wonder where does our faith really take hold?. I often wonder in our Journey, in this walk with Christ, what is the difference. So many have a tremedous amout of spiritual knowledge but seem to lack something. I think it may be a Heart thing. If our faith in Christ can't find its way to our Heart then what does it really mean?I was studing this recently and this is what I found.
In 1 Samuel 16: 6-13--verse 7 says The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart...
We can tell how men look, but God can tell what they are.He judges men by the HEART. We often form a mistaken judgement of character, but the Lord values only the faith, fear, and love, which are planted in the heart, beyond human discernment. and God does not FAVOR our children according to our fond partiality. He honours and blesses thoses who have been LEAST regarded.
Luke 16:15 says....."you are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your heart
.Acts 1:24...Then they prayed "Lord, you know everyones heart
.Proverbs 16:2...All a persons ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. 1 Samuel 2:3"Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the Lord is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed.
I think we need to remember to keep our eyes on God. I think people in our lives, even ones who seem strong in their faith, will at some point dissapoint us.If their Faith is in their head and not in their heart then they will surely dissapoint when trials come. We are on a journey and everyone has a different path that God controls. We need to be careful before judging what works for someone else.I like the saying Actions speak louder than words and By your fruits you shall know them.  Our goal should be to be like Christ a true" Jesus Follower". We know we are on the right track when we look like Christ.

HAPPY EASTER

APPLE WALNUT CHICKEN SALAD

I am always looking to change up a basic chicken salad. I probably eat a chicken salad sandwich once a week. I really like them but it is always nice to change it up from season to season. Today I tried this version

Apple Walnut Chicken Salad
One-half Chicken Breast( cooked)
One celery stalk chopped
3 green onions chopped
1/3 cup chopped apple
1/3 cup roasted walnuts
1/2 cup salad dressing
Pinch or two of poultry seasoning
Salt/pepper to taste

Mix altogether and refrigerate 1/2 hour
I put apples separate in two tablespoons lemon juice to keep from discoloration .
It is best to add apples and walnuts 15-30 minutes before serving. I used this for a sandwich filling and it was delicious.

ICE CREAM MAKER

Master H came to spend the day with grandma. He has Karate Class on Tuesday's so it makes it a little easier on his mother to pick him up here after work and then go to class. He was such a good boy . It was another cold day but this young man loves to make ice cream. He would make his Great - Grandpa proud. My dad also loved ice cream and ate it on a regular basis.

LITTLE BAKER

Miss E and her brother were at Grammycare again today. It was colder than Friday so we decided to do some baking. I was making Chili for dinner and wanted cinnamon rolls to go with it. This is Miss E's first attempt at rolling bread dough and shaping it. She did a very good job for a 3 year old. We also made Chex mix with Master H. He loves to cook but likes to sample along the way. His cousin does the same thing. I have to remind them when making it for yourself that is fine but not when your making it for others. We had a great day and the kids took home what they made. I think my dad would be so happy if he could see what a legacy of Bakers he left behind.

ONE THING REMAINS

JESUS CULTURE LYRICS

Higher than the moutains that I face
Stronger than the power of the grave
Constant through the trial and the change
One thing...Remains

Your love never fails, never gives up
Never runs out on me.

On and on and on it goes
It overwhelms and satisfies my soul
and I never, ever, have to be afraid
One thing remains

In death, In life, I'm confident and
covered by the power of your Great Love
My debt is paid, there's nothing that can
separate my heart from Your great love...

This is one of the songs we sang in church this morning. You can find it on YouTube. I do recomend listening to it. As we walk through this Journey called life we experience so many things. As I continue managing my grief I find myself going through many changes. I have lost both my parents very close together. I am finding out how much our parents are the main focus at keeping a family together. We are tightly knitted by their love for us. I don't live near any of my siblings and am now feeling the loss of family as well.  The family dynamic will never be the same but as a member of Gods family I am secure.

DAY WITH GRANDKIDS

Daycare was closed for a few days so that is when Grammycare opens up. We had a good day walking and playing outside in the snow. My sister in law is building a house nearby so we piled the kiddos in the wagon and walked over to see what was going on. Miss E. does not like loud noises so when we saw a big truck in the front yard she did not want to go any further. Master N is getting so independent but that is to be expected when your almost 2. He loves mud puddles and pulling the wagon. Miss E. likes to be warm inside and drawing pictures. After playing outside we came in for Hot Chocolate to warm up. Later Master N had his first baking lesson. He did very well. Chocolate cupcakes from a mix was the choice we made. They are quick to do and keeps the attention of a 2-3 year old.

Grammys Hot Chocolate
Warm milk
Chocolate Syrup to taste
10 mini marshmallows per cup
Whip cream from a can
Chocolate sprinkles or
Syrup drizzle
Cherry if you like

It is a blessing to be a grandma!

STILL WINTER HERE

What did the Ingalls Family in their Little House do on the Prairie when they had snow? I am very glad for one of these ( snowblowers)

Winter on the Prairie in Minnesota is here until March 20. There are some years it lasts until the first weeks of April.

I have decided to do an Easter Egg Hunt indoors this year. It keeps snowing and I don't think it will  melt by Easter. I have only two grandchildren coming so it should be ok.

It has been snowing all day again so I decided to do some baking

LEMON POPPYSEED BUNDT CAKE
I had a lemon cake mix to use but am not thrilled with the fake taste so I made a few changes.
one cake mix
4 eggs
1/2 cup oil
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup FRESH lemon juice
2 Tablespoons Poppy seeds
( 1/3 cup flour)
You mix the ingredients all together for 30 seconds or so then beat for 4 minutes. Fold in the poppy seeds. Pour into a greased Bundt pan. Bake for 37-40 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool in pan for 10-15 minutes and turn over on plate to cool. This recipe called for a small box of lemon instant pudding to be added. My cake mix had pudding in the mix so I thought it would be ok but at the bottom of the page it said add the pudding even if it is in the mix so I added the flour instead and it came out good.I like to add a Lemon Glaze so the one I made was one cup powdered surgar and enough Fresh Lemon juice to make a drizzle consistency(1/2 a lemon squeezed)I let the cake cool for about 20 minutes and then poured the glazed over.
